KentuckyCare offers a variety of services when it comes to HIV awareness, prevention, and treatment such as:
- Rapid HIV testing
- Awareness campaigns
- Educational initiatives
- HIV medical and case management
- HIV empowerment programs
HIV Testing
Everyone should be tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime. Knowing your HIV status can help prevent new transmissions. We currently use the Rapid Oral Swab HIV Test which takes only 20 minutes for the results. Not to mention, all rapid tests are free.
PrEP and PEP
KentuckyCare offers medications such as PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis).
PrEP is an FDA-approved pill that helps prevent HIV for those that have a greater chance of becoming HIV-positive. PrEP can prevent an HIV infection by over 92%.
PEP, unlike PrEP is a 28-day course of medication that should only be used in emergency situations. This medication is considered after a possible exposure to HIV, and must be started within 72 hours of the exposure.
